181st RHA Annual Exhibition

Ozmin Hickey have been invited by the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin to show their submission for the Atlantic City Holocaust War Memorial in their Annual Exhibition. The exhibition runs from 25 May-30 July, 2011.

Although the winner has not yet been announced, Donal Hickey and Janek Ozmins’ submission for the Atlantic City Holocaust Memorial Competition has been further shortlisted from the 13 finalists to the last six. During the course of the last few weeks they have been informed that their submission was not successful and therefore has not been further shortlisted to two potential schemes.

Casino at Marino

We love this local gem. We visit regularly and bring visitors there all the time. Located in Marino it is 5 minutes from our office. The Casino at Marino was designed by Sir William Chambers in 1775 for James Caulfeild the first Earl of Charlemont. It is an exceptional example of Neo-classical architecture and one which delighted Valerio Olgati when we visited it with him in 2008.

WASteLAND

The Exhibition for WASteLAND by 3rd year Architecture students of DIT is being opened by Cllr. Emer Costello, The Lord Mayor of Dublin. Minister John Gormley, T.D. Minister for the Environment will launch the book WASteLAND. There will be an introduction by Ali Grehan, The Dublin City Architect and Professor James Horan, Head of the Dublin School of Architecture.

Legion Hall, Killester – Planning Information night

Donal Hickey Architects will be holding an information night to help residents of Killester understand the issues pertaining to the planning permission which has been submitted for a creche at the Middle Third green area/Legion Hall. Donal will discuss in detail the proposed plans and submission details and compare them to the previous submission. Any comments should be submitted to Dublin City Council prior to 3rd of December.

The sun came out just as the 150 visitors arrived at our house and studio on Sunday for Open House. We had great feedback and were delighted that so many people were so interested to see 1 Nuns’ Lane. Here are some photos of the day.

Donal Hickey Architects will be showing 1 Nuns’ Lane at this years OPEN HOUSE. Last year there were nearly 200 visitors who were given a half hour talk and shown around the house and office.
Ireland’s largest architectural event Open House Dublin returns from 8 to 11 October with a special focus on ‘Dublin’s Architecture – The New Generation’. The programme will feature a cross-section of Dublin’s most innovative designs – from the city’s newest urban quarters at Heuston Gate and in the Docklands to pioneer schemes that offer exemplary ways of living and working in the city and cleverly configured private residences and extensions. Content will be drawn from a wide range of building types including inventive community centres that creatively respond to local needs, award-winning schools providing a stimulating learning environment, and private residences that demonstrate thought and leadership on behalf of client and architect. Energy-efficiency, future-proofing and overall sustainability will be themes that run through all of these ‘new generation’ buildings and guided tours by architects and sustainability experts will explore the inherent innovation of these schemes. The programme will also provide a platform for the work of the ‘new generation of architects’, young architects and smaller practices who are beginning to make their mark through original projects and competitions.

Eco bed/chair is a winner

Paul’OBrien and Kevin Kelly, Architecture Students at DIT Bolton Street designed this chair/futon bed which uses only three materials all of which are recycled (egg cartons, plastic bottles and cardboard boxes).They submitted it to SESAM and won! Great news!

Students win EASA Italian summer school competition

Congratulations to Paul O’Brien who worked with us on his year out last year. He won the EASA Italian summer school competition with 3 other Irish students, Attley, Donnellan and Kelly. They will travel to Italy shortly to build their proposed Pavillion.
