“We believe in architecture as a public act to structure society and our environment. That the archtiect is both a thinker and maker engaged in material practice: manipulating material, form, space and light. We are fully involved in teaching, practice and the promotion of architectural culture which is intrinsic in our practice of architecture.”

Donal Hickey was born in 1965 in Dublin, educated at the Dublin Institute of Technology receiving Diplomas in Architecture Technology and Architecture and a Bachelor of Architectural Science from Trinity College Dublin. He opened his own architecture office in Dublin in 1999 and joined with Gavin Buggy as Arcus Architects from 2003 to 2008.

Donal now practices as Donal Hickey Architects. In 2008 he was elected as a Member of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland.

He has lectured at the Dublin School of Architecture in the Dublin Institute of Technology since 1999 and was appointed Assistant Yearmaster in 2006. In 2002-3 he was President of the Architectural Association of Ireland and is a founding member of the Irish Architecture Foundation.

In 2008,1 Nuns’ Lane, Donals residence and office studio received highly commended for Best House in the RIAI awards and commended for a Project under 1 Million Euros in the Opus Awards.
